clean/scrub the copper side of the PC board with steel wool
do NOT touch it with your fingers
as the oil from your fingers will prevent the "resist" (aka marker/printer ink)

or you can print laser ink onto thin plastic clear sheets
then transfer it PCB design onto the board
with a clothes standard iron (no steam)

Etchant - HomeMade / ReUsable! (Safer/Env Friendly)
1 part Hydrochloric/muriatic/pool acid $5/gal ...instead of Ferric Chloride Liquid+
2 parts Hydrogen Peroxide
...Put in Non-Metalic container...
keep it away from metal (as it can "eat" stainless-steel kitchen sink coating!)
Put in PCB to "etch" it super-fast! (<2minutes)
swirl it around a little as it etches.
Etchant gets greener (creating cupric chloride)
as it eats the copper. (good news)
the cupric chloride will be doing most of the etching
(instead of requiring disposal).
You can reuse it
...the green color will deepen
